Introduction
In our “Celebrate Life” series, we spotlight individuals who bring unique perspectives on finding joy in the everyday. Our featured guest, Tamara, shares how a serene swim in Sri Lanka, an unhurried Sunday morning with her son, and a simple daily crossword puzzle have shaped her approach to living fully. Join us as we explore her stories and discover what it truly means to celebrate life.
1. The “Here and Now” Moment
Q: When was the last time you felt fully immersed in the present? What made it so special?
Tamara:
Floating in the sea in Sri Lanka with my best friend. One of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen - the sound of the waves, the sway of the palm trees, the warmth of the sun on my skin. People there are so kind, so relaxed, and for once, I had nowhere to be, no phone in hand, nothing to rush off to.
2. Personal “Secret” Joys
Q: Do you have a small ritual or habit that consistently lifts your mood?
Tamara:
Making sure I go outside and move, even if it’s just a short walk. Ideally first thing in the morning to set my circadian rhythm, but if that’s not possible, I make sure I step out before 2 p.m. I see it as a life hack.
I also love completing the New York Times crossword - it’s a small thing, but I do it every day without fail.
3. A Cinematic Scene
Q: If there were a short film about your life, which scene would absolutely have to be included?
Tamara:
A slow Sunday morning, dancing in the kitchen with my son, making pancakes. Sunlight streaming through the windows, music playing, laughter filling the space - perfectly imperfect. It’s one of those moments you wish you could bottle up forever.
4. Small Victories
Q: What does a “small victory” mean to you? Could you share a recent example that brought you joy or pride?
Tamara:
Leaving my job to become a freelancer - a leap into the unknown, but it gave me the freedom to build a life on my terms. Now I pick up my son from school every day, hear about his day firsthand, make dinner, and really experience the moments I used to miss. I’m soaking up those after-school hugs before he’s too grown up.
5. Current Inspiration
Q: What’s inspiring you most right now?
Tamara:
I’m inspired by the incredible women around me who are doing amazing things. Each journey looks different, which motivates me to keep pushing myself.
And my son… children find magic in everything. I think we all need more of that.
6. Finding Joy in Hard Times
Q: Has there been a time when things didn’t go as planned, but you found a way to stay positive?
Tamara:
Life rarely sticks to the script, but I remind myself that this too shall pass. Everything is temporary, even the difficult moments. I look back at how far I’ve come and realize how proud my younger self would be. I’ve been here before and made it through, so I trust I will again.
7. Message of Joy
Q: What would you say to someone who’s forgotten how to notice life’s small pleasures?
Tamara:
Look for something good in every day, even if it means searching a little harder sometimes. Joy is everywhere - whether it’s the smell of fresh coffee, making someone smile, nourishing ourselves with good food, or paying a stranger a compliment.
Slow down and take five minutes to spot it.
8. Celebrate Life
Q: What does “celebrating life” personally mean to you?
Tamara:
For me, it’s about embracing the chaos, the ups and downs, the unpredictability. Letting yourself be present and finding beauty even on the messiest days.
