This holiday season, we’re excited to introduce Hoda – a young mother who creates a unique festive atmosphere in her home by blending different cultures, family traditions, and the Celebrate Life philosophy. We spoke with her about how she fills her space with warmth and meaning in the run-up to Christmas, without losing herself in the
Question: What does the spirit of Christmas mean to you, especially now that you have a little one at home? Are there any family traditions that bring that special holiday magic into your days?
Hoda: I didn’t grow up celebrating Christmas in Iran, but I fell in love with the holiday spirit during my first Christmas in LA. Now in Dubai, we set up the tree right after Halloween, and there’s always a family lunch on the 25th. “Home Alone” and “Love Actually” have become our must-watch Christmas movies. The sweetest moment is waking up on Christmas morning and discovering that “Santa left little gifts” for everyone. It’s a simple joy that brings us closer and starts the holiday with love and laughter.
Question: What simple rituals make your home truly festive?
Hoda: I love to fill every corner with holiday cheer—flowers, festive accents, candles, and twinkling lights. These little touches create a warm, inviting atmosphere. The soft glow of candles and the sparkle of lights bring the season to life, making the house feel cozy and full of joy.
Question: Where do you find inspiration to create a unique festive ambiance?
Hoda: Instagram, Pinterest, and exploring the city. Traveling is inspiring, but with a toddler it’s a bit challenging, so I find ideas online and around Dubai. The local decorations, beautiful storefronts, and images I find online spark my creativity.
Question: How do you balance all the cooking, decorating, organizing with actually pausing to enjoy the moment? Do you have any tips for avoiding burnout during this busy period?
Hoda: I work full-time, and motherhood is a full-time job in itself. It can be intense, but I embrace every moment. I’ve learned to ask for help and to say “no” when needed. Prioritizing well-being is key—don’t be afraid to set boundaries or accept support. Saying “maybe” often means “no,” and that’s fine. By allowing myself to lean on others, I can truly savor those special moments.
Question: What little details or accessories—whether in décor or fashion—help highlight a stylish yet cozy, family-centered Christmas?
Hoda: I love collecting small treasures from my travels—items that carry stories and memories. Our home blends my Iranian roots and my husband’s Australian background, so each piece reflects our cultures and experiences. Whether it’s a handcrafted ornament from Tehran or art from Australia, these meaningful objects turn our home into a reflection of our world, connecting past and present in a warm, personal
“A or B” Quiz (Hoda’s answers):
• Festive décor: candles or fairy lights? — Candles
• Evenings: a classic Christmas movie or a family board game? — Movie
• Hot drink: spiced mulled wine or cocoa with marshmallows? — Mulled wine
• Music: Christmas hits or soothing instrumentals? — Christmas hits
Hoda’s story shows that Christmas can be about embracing diverse traditions, cherishing small gestures, and finding balance in the holiday rush. It’s about Celebrate Life—focusing on meaningful moments, learning to delegate, and nurturing a home that reflects who you are and where you come from. By weaving together cultural roots, memories, and simple joys, Hoda creates a holiday environment that’s both stylish and deeply personal.
